With Martin Steel making his TRASH debut, the gang (Malc, Mike, Rick, Dave W, Dave W, Bob, Peter, Steve, (Phil?) headed off on a Portilloesque odyssey incorporating East Anglia, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and North-West. Mike did us proud with his Loch Fyne vouchers in Norwich before a next day trip along the North Norfolk Railway. Most went for a lunchtime stroll around Lincoln (Steep Hill/Cathedral) while Ernie inexplicably headed for the most-busy Barnaby junction for freight spotting.

Arrival in Cleethorpes was met by the post-apocalyptic view of a demolished bingo-hall and “Paradise Island” (grotty entertainments). Dave took on and won a consumer protest over our beers before a lavish fish and chip supper at Steels. We had no clue what was to come: one of the most memorable episodes in TRASH history…our B&B digs! A ruse and bonkers landlady, 4 in a room for 2, a rogue shower, insults from our host over breakfast, only scratched the surface. At least Malc negotiated the rate down to £25!

On to Bradford where a highlight was the Omar Khayam, one of the best Indian restaurants we have seen. We witnessed a young girl throwing out two barred Asian youths from a pub after they tried playing the “race card”. Impressive! Later in the same place the clientele were so pissed that they were falling off their seats onto the floor. Last stop Liverpool where Malc gave his famous Scouse rules about ‘No snoring, no farting and no wanking’ in the Travelodge, even though we weren’t sharing rooms. We met Ernie’s brother and partner for a meal at Albert Dock.  The visit covered many delights including Beatles Museums, city bus tour for some; Rick visited the U-boat museum across the Mersey. An epic and most memorable TRASH outing and all for £101 on the trains!
