200 years The Greatest Gathering August 2025

 This year is the 200th celebration the advent of steam railway passenger services when Locomotion
No1 took to the rails. This was over three days August 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Two members of TRASH were able to obtain tickets at the last moment to attend the Greatest Gathering at the Alstom Derby Works.

Getting there meant an early start from Worthing for arrival at Derby at 11.00.

On reaching the site
after a 10min walk what was seen was a rail Enthusiast’s Heaven.

Locomotives in all directions
consisting of Diesel, Steam, Electric carriages, freight vehicles, passenger units and so it goes on.

Of course the most popular were the steam locomotives among which was 60103 Flying Scotsman,
60163 Tornado, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 60532 Blue Peter. If you didn’t like those then other
steam locos were available. Most of the steam locos were allowing visitors into the cabs.
45627 Sierra Leone was giving rides on a side track while one of the new diesel/electric locos was
giving a cab ride with driving experience.

The highlight of the non steam locos were 99001, 93003 and 93009 yet to enter revenue service for
GBRf and DRS respectively.
Michael Portillo was seen recording for a new two part program on BBC in September.

Over
40,000 visitors were recorded over the three days of the event.
